Airbus Helicopters delivered the first of four AS355 NP Ecureuil helicopters to the Spanish Road Transport Authority (DGT) and the first of three EC135 helicopters to the Spanish National Police Force, the company said on Wednesday.

Under a February 2014 contract, Airbus is supplying seven total helicopters: four AS355 NPs and three EC135s, with the latter to be operated by the National Police Force.

Starting with these two deliveries, the order is set to be completed in 2016, the company said.

The DGT has 12 helicopters that it uses for surveillance, traffic regulation, and highway patrols throughout Spain (excluding Catalonia and the Basque Country). This is one of the largest fleets of the AS355 NP Ecureuils in the world, Airbus noted.

The National Police Force now has 14 EC135s including this delivery. They are used for surveillance and assorted police missions.
