The Safran Group says that its U.S.-based electronics and avionics business has received a five-year subcontract from the Airbus Group to provide contractor logistics services for the U.S. Army’s fleet of UH-72A Lakota light utility helicopters.

Terms of the subcontract were not disclosed.

The Army in December 2016 awarded Airbus Helicopters a five-year contract for the logistics services and Airbus Helicopters is subcontracting with Safran as a direct supplier in support of the Lakota fleet. Safran provides the autopilot system for the Lakota aircraft.

Safran will provide support to Army and Army National Guard bases in 43 states, Kwajalein, Guam, Puerto Rico and Germany. In the U.S., the largest concentration of UH-72As is based at Fort Rucker, Ala., were the utility helicopters are used by the Army for Initial Entry Rotary Wing flight training of new pilots.

Airbus is based in Europe and Safran is headquartered in France.
