The Air Force yesterday, for the second time in less than a week, successfully test launched an unarmed Minuteman III ICBM from Vandenberg AFB, Calif., according to a service statement.

The service also test launched a Minuteman III Sunday. The Air Force has scheduled another Minuteman III test launch for Oct. 23, according to an Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) spokeswoman.

The ICBM test launch program supports United States strategic deterrence policy as outlined in the 2010 Defense Department Nuclear Posture Review by demonstrating the operational credibility of the Minuteman III. DoD and Energy Department agencies will use data collected from the test launch to ensure contribute to the nation’s strategic deterrence goals.
