Atlantic City International Airport has deployed Under Vehicle Inspection Systems supplied by Law Enforcement Associates [AID] to screen the undercarriage of cars, trucks and buses for explosives or contraband as they enter airport property. The purchase and deployment of the UVIS systems was funded by a $22,500 grant from the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security. The South Jersey Transportation Authority says the deployment is the first for a U.S. airport. The UVIS system includes a four-inch ramp equipped with a series of cameras and lights that transmit an image of the undercarriage of the vehicle to a security screen located in a mobile vehicle parked nearby.
