About the Summit

Mr. Geoff Fein, Chairman, 2010 Open Architecture Summit

Now that the Navy has begun upgrading Aegis cruisers and is preparing to begin modernizing the Arleigh Burke-class of destroyers with the latest combat system upgrades, the service is looking to add more components for ACB14.

Led by the Navy’s acquisition shop, Program Executive Officers from across all the service’s domains, have committed to implementing OA. These efforts could open up additional  business opportunities for companies both large and small.

The Navy is also in the process of updating its OA guidebooks and publications.

But as the Navy works to incorporate advances in OA, officials will also need to begin to consider a number of issues from documentation to training.

Last year, during the second OA Summit, industry representatives raised questions about the process for acquiring systems. In particular, representatives wondered whether the process needs to be renamed, from open architecture to open acquisition.

Everyone knows that a system is only as good as its parts.  So as systems are opened up to enable third parties to contribute components,  what risks do the services run?  You'll learn about the risks and also take away useful insights about guidelines and measures that need to be taken to ensure that opening up combat or C4I systems doesn’t introduce vulnerabilities.

And new this year, learn from experts inside the Department of Homeland about their efforts to move toward OA.

At The 3rd Annual OA Summit, you will take part in provocative discussions on:

•    The open architecture path beyond ACB 12 and 14.
•    Open architecture efforts beyond surface ship combat systems.
•    Open architecture efforts in the Department of Homeland Security.
•    Whether the Navy and DoD need to reexamine their OA effort to focus more on open acquisition.

Between the networking opportunities with key decision makers in industry, government and the military and the insightful debate on the key issues, you cannot afford to miss this annual event.
