Navy Awards Northrop Grumman $483M for AEODRS Increment 1

The Naval Surface Warfare Center Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division has awarded Northrop Grumman [NOC] a $483 million contract for the Advanced Explosive Ordnance Disposal Robotic System (AEODRS) Increment 1.  The AEODRS is a Navy-sponsored program to develop a new generation of open, modular robotics systems, allowing for a family of unmanned ground vehicle systems that provide interoperability and interchangeability at the module level.

DHS S&T Awards $10M in Mobile Security Research Contracts

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate in the past month has awarded eight research contract worth a total of $10.4 million for mobile security.  The awards under the Mobile Technology Security (MTS) effort are aimed at strengthening mobile-device security for the federal government.  Under the mobile instrumentation research area, HRL Laboratories, LLC received $2.2 million, Kryptowire $1.7 million, Northrop Grumman [NOC] $1.8 million, and United Technologies Corp. [UTX] Research Center $791,000. Under the mobile security management tool research area, IBM [IBM] received $1.4 million and the Univ. of North Carolina at Charlotte $760,000.  Under the mobile device layer protection area Intelligent Automation Inc. received $1.2 million, and under the transactional security methods area Rutgers Univ. received $576,000. “Enabling a mobile and secure federal workforce is essential to achieving mission success,” says Dr. Reginald Brothers, under secretary of DHS for S&T. “S&T is working to develop innovative and affordable technology solutions that align with government policies and standards while protecting sensitive information from cyber adversaries.” The MTS effort is part of the Mobile Device Security research and development program, which is aimed at increasing the adoption of security mobility by government and private sector organizations.

Morpho Supplies Itemiser 4DX ETDs to Airports in Britain, Denmark

Safran Group’s Morpho Detection subsidiary says it has received two contracts to supply 74 desktop Itemiser 4DX explosive trace detectors (ETDs) to airports in Britain and Denmark. United Kingdom airport operator Manchester Airports Group Plc. ordered 44 of the ETDs through a competitive tender, replacing a competitor’s legacy systems, Morpho says. The systems are being deployed to Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports. Placing its first ETD order, Copenhagen Airport in Denmark contracted for 30 Itemiser 4DX systems. The 4DX is approved for passenger and air cargo screening through the European Civil Aviation Conference’s 44 member states. Morpho has sold more than 800 of the systems to airport customers throughout Europe.

FPS Increasing X-Ray System BPA with Smiths Detection

The Federal Protective Service (FPS) is expanding by $1.7 million an existing Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) with Smiths Detection for X-Ray systems to address the need for security systems at additional facilities.  Prior to the expansion, the BPA had a ceiling value of $5.7 million.

DHS Awards BAE Extension to Continue Support to NPPD

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded BAE Systems a $569,144 extension to an existing task order to continue to prove the National Protection and Programs Director4at with technical, non-personal services in support of the exploitation of open-source Islamic terrorist material on the manufacture of improvised explosive devices, weapons of mass destruction, and chemical and biological weapons, and maintaining an online knowledge-management system of this project. The three-month extension brings the total task order value to $9.5 million. The extension provides time to allow DHS to award a new task order and maintain continuity of services.
